The Omahu School flood repairs project is one of our highlights because it not only delivered better outcomes directly to the community, it also demonstrated Manzis Build’s capability to head contract and deliver commercially. 

In February 2023, this small rural school in Hastings, with a roll of around 40 tamariki, sustained substantial water damaged from the flood waters caused by Cyclone Gabrielle. The students and staff were kindly hosted by Irongate School until they were able to return to the school. We worked closely with Ministry of Education and the School Board to support the students and teachers return to the school in three stages:

  1. Decontamination and refurbishment of the historic 124 year old library (which sat higher than the other classrooms), including extensive upgrades to all of it’s spaces including a new kitchen and the addition of a sheltered deck.
  2. Manual deconstruction of the rest of the school buildings with a programme safely in place to deliver reusable products and materials back to the local community. 
  3. Final demolition and site tidy, ready to receive their new classrooms.
